Meet Sophie Skelton

Get to know Sophie Skelton a bit better in this interview done by Harper's Bazaar:

It's almost like the pressure of playing a real person. A lot of these women have been reading about Brianna for 20 years. I was three at the time Brianna comes into the second book. That’s always the scary thing about it... You owe it to [viewers] to play her how they imagined, but obviously with the book everyone sees everything differently. Luckily, when I was prepping for the role, I read the books and became a fan of Brianna as well, so anything [fans] feel they want to keep of her, I probably feel, too. I feel very protective of the character.

This was a good one! I have to admit that I haven't been the biggest fan of the way the show has gone with Bree's character so far, but I'm really excited to see what they'll do in season 3.

In what way? Given that she's been in only one episode, I'm not sure how one would judge that?

I wasn't a huge fan of Bree when she was first introduced in DiA, but she's one of my fave characters now -- totally love her in book 8. The only real issue I had with how the show handled her in 213 was making her do an American accent. I know she grows up in the US, but both her parents were British and as a baby, she would have learned to speak like her parents. Sure, the accent would have become more muted over time, what with going to American schools and having American friends, but in my mind, she wouldn't have gone fully US accent.

It's not that I absolutely hated her character, and, like you said, she's only in one episode, but show!Bree is very abrasive compared to book!Bree, so I wasn't too crazy about her. I can absolutely see her potential, and I do see why the show decided to go in that direction, so it's more like I miss the book's version of her, I guess? If that makes any sense.

See, I found her quite abrasive in book 2, so for me, TV Bree is pretty much like she is in DiA. If anything, I thought maybe they toned her down a bit for the show (in order to not turn off non-book viewers maybe). They also altered things a fair bit -- like how she finds out about Jamie -- in the show they didn't have the bit where Claire finds the fake Jamie headstone that Frank had paid to have put up. So the show had to sort of rush Bree's finding out about her parentage and related events, so it would make someone quite upset to have all of that dumped on them in one go.
