Really wish we could embed tweets here like we can on LJ, but anyway...

Starz officially announced today that Season 4 will start airing in November, and that the series has been officially renewed for seasons 5 and 6!! No word on whether they're sticking with the one book per season format, but we'll assume that's the case until we hear/read otherwise!

Also bonus: Claire and Rollo

Murtagh's back!! As if there was any doubt!

Sadly impossible to embed tweets on Dreamwidth (one thing LJ does better).

ETA: And it appears the tweet was deleted -- but it was a fan posing with Duncan Lacroix in full Murtagh regalia on the set. So Murtagh is definitely reunited with Jamie and Claire in season 4.

Someone recorded this from their TV, but it's still totally watchable. If/when a proper clip is released, I will post that one instead.

If you're in the US, and have access to Starz, they will be marathoning season 3 tomorrow (January 14), starting at 9:05 ET. Bonus: at 10:00 p.m. ET, Starz will air a scene from season 4.

For those of us not in the US, or who don't have access to Starz, I will be on the look-out for that bonus scene being uploaded to youtube and will post it if/when I find it.

Also, this article has the latest on talks regarding the future of the show. If I'm reading it right, the issue going forward isn't whether to renew Outlander for at least a season 5 and 6, but whether to stick with the one book per season formula.

Production of season 4 is in full swing -- cast and crew recently tweeted that they've started work on Block 2 (which usually means ep. 3 and 4 as each block consists of 2 episodes). There is still no word on further seasons, but this article about Starz bodes well for Outlander being renewed beyond season 4:

And yet, Power isn’t the show that gets the most ink. That would be Outlander, which doesn’t get quite as many initial viewers per episode, but is probably the buzziest, most discussed and obsessed-over show on any cable network (aside from Game of Thrones, of course, and maybe The Walking Dead). Perhaps a more impressive number than the amount of viewers, though, is the fact that the average per episode is up over 40 percent from last season, and over 46 percent in the prime demo. Only two other shows on cable television had increases that high, and they were both HBO programs — Insecure and Ballers. While it’s true that Outlander is the only such show on Starz, it has served to legitimize the entire network.

And while we're talking about season 4, this is a video of some behind the scenes from a recent shoot (with cheesy music). What's most interesting about it for me at least comes at the 2:49 mark -- ROLLO!!!! Otherwise, it's mostly just (not that clear) shots of Jamie and Claire on horseback, riding through the woods, and stills of a rudimentary camp set-up and other props. But ROLLO!!!!

Two key casting announcements from Starz for Outlander's season 4:

Maria Doyle Kennedy will play Jamie's aunt Jocasta, and Ed Speleers takes on the role of nasty Stephen Bonnet.

Both are Downton Abbey alumni -- Kennedy played Mr. Bates' nasty ex-wife Vera, while Speleers played footman Jimmy.

Must say that Kennedy is much younger than I would have envisioned for Jocasta, but the casting has been so bang-on perfect thus far, I'm not concerned. Although, Speleers will have a way to go to get me to shed my impression of him as that nice Jimmy lad...

Is it too early to talk about season 4? Well, with no new episode this Sunday, we need to talk about something, right? I will try to keep this as general as possible, but be aware that if you've not read the 4th book in the series, Drums of Autumn, there may be some mild spoilers here.

Location, location, location! Season 4 is based on the 4th book by Diana Gabaldon, Drums of Autumn. This one takes place primarily in the colonies, specifically North Carolina. While many US-based Outlander fans were hoping this would mean production would shift from Scotland to the US, it was announced earlier this year that they would be filming in Scotland. However, more recently, Ron D. Moore mentioned that some filming would likely also take place in "Eastern Europe". This doesn't surprise me -- while it does snow in Scotland, they don't get the amounts of snow that are referenced in the novel, and I think the crew is looking for more properly mountainous areas to film some of the outdoor action. What hasn't been mentioned by anyone (to my knowledge) is what they plan to do about ship scenes. A couple of characters undertake sea journeys in DofA -- will they return to South Africa for that or make do with mostly interior shots?

***THE FOLLOWING MAY CONTAIN POTENTIAL SPOILERS IF YOU'VE NOT READ DRUMS OF AUTUMN***

While season three hasn't quite yet hit the halfway mark, cast and crew are back in Scotland and have already started work on season 4. Since they tend to film pretty much in order, that means there are going to be some key casting decisions made soon or maybe already made but not announced.

While there will be a number of new characters introduced in season 4, there are two roles in particular that I am looking forward to see how they will cast. Those are Jamie's Aunt Jocasta, and, of course, Stephen Bonnet. Who would you like to see cast in either of those roles? Are there any other major new characters from Drums of Autumn that you are looking forward to seeing on-screen?
