joClaire manages to survive quite well in the past because of her knowledge about the past, and because her skills as a healer are in demand pretty much at any time in history.
If Jamie could also go through the stones, and if he had decided after surviving Culloden to go to the future to try to find Claire, do you think he would have managed as well? What sort of work could Jamie have found in the late 1940s? I really can't see him in any sort of office job.
