The Fiery Cross Reread: Thoughts on Part 2
Nov. 5th, 2019 11:36 amFinished reading Part 2 of the novel last night and thought I'd better make a few notes here before I forget.
Part 2 covers the trip back to Fraser's Ridge from the Gathering to Claire, Jamie and Roger leaving the Ridge with theirband of merry men militia to go fight the Regulators.
What happens during that time? Not much, to be perfectly honest. But there are two things that do happen that should be in the show. One I know definitely is, the other I am pretty sure is based on the trailer.
1. Adso: on the way back to the Ridge, Jamie finds a wee kitty in the forest and brings him home as a gift for Claire -- a kitten they name Adso. We know Adso will make an appearance because he's been cast (see icon). And he has a lovely Instagram account.
2. Roger's eye-sight issue: Roger has an eye-sight problem, we discover. He doesn't have binocular vision, which makes it close to impossible for him to fire a gun with accuracy. This will likely be in the show because the problem surfaces when Bree takes him out to practice shooting. We see a couple of shots from what must be the Bree-Roger shooting practice scene in the trailer, so pretty sure that will make it into the show.
As for the other stuff that happens in Part 2, well, I'm sure there will be ways to condense it all or even just skip loads of it. I skipped loads of it while reading -- lots of description and no action to speak of. Won't make for riveting television...
